PAN Card is a mandatory document for most of the financial endeavors today. Suppose you intend to open a savings bank account to park your funds, then PAN is asked as a proof of identity, proof of residence, and proof of date of birth. The PAN card also serves as an identification factor for all financial transactions. But what happens if people lose this Card or what if it is damaged? Should they apply for a new card? No, that is not necessary. They can reprint their Card from the government. Depending on the issuer, individuals can apply for a reprint of their Card online. These cards may be issued by NSDL or by URI-TSL. In this article, I will focus on how to get a new PAN card online from UTIITSL.

What Should Be Done When The PAN Card Is Lost Or Damaged?
In case you have lost or damaged your PAN card, then don’t worry. You can reprint it online. The income tax department issues the PAN card through issuers NSDL-TIN or UTITSL. These are the most sought-after PAN service providers. Both these issuers have online services for PAN application, reprinting the Card without any correction and making amends to the present PAN card. Depending on your PAN issuer, you can approach either of these organizations to reprint the Card if it is lost or damaged.
The procedure to apply online is relatively simple. Individuals should visit the official website of these card issuers and click on the “Reprint PAN Card” option. After this, you should input your details, and the new copy of the PAN card will be mailed to your house.
To reprint the PAN card, both the agencies charge for the delivery services. For Indian applicants living in India, a fee of Rs.50 is charged. For delivery outside India, the fees are Rs.959. The PAN card will only be delivered to the address that is available in the database of the Income Tax Department.
Pre-Requisites For Reprinting It
The income tax department has enabled the cardholder to approach the online services to retrieve their PAN card. The PAN card issued through this process is called a Duplicate PAN card. The duplicate PAN card may be issued only under the following conditions.
1. Only individuals who have already processed their PAN application before are eligible to apply for the duplicate PAN. The Government of India issues the duplicate PAN with the help of various agencies that are prominent across the country. The application for the duplicate PAN is available online through various online services. But the agencies ought to be under the guidance of the government.
2. While filling the application for a duplicate PAN, the cardholders should specify their details. These are email-id and phone numbers in the existent PAN card. The email and the phone number registered helps them to receive an OTP. The OTP is generated while applying for the reprint of the PAN.
Duplicate Pan Reprinting The PAN Card
The PAN card can be reprinted for one of the two reasons. These are corrections in the PAN card’s existing information and if the Card is lost or damaged. Thus, reprinting the PAN card will generate a new PAN card with the same details that were issued before.
i. The facility for reprinting the PAN card can be availed by applicants whose PAN application was processed by NSDL e-Gov, UTIITSL, or the e-filling portal of the Income Tax Department.
ii. While applying for online reprinting services, supporting documents are not required.
iii. After successfully applying online, there are delivery charges imposed on the applicant. These are Rs.50 for an applicant with an Indian address and Rs.959 for an applicant with a foreign address.
iv. The Card will be delivered within a few working days vis post. Make sure that there are no changes in the personal details while reprinting the PAN.
Steps For Issuing Duplicate PAN Card
Visit the official website of your PAN card issuer. For some, it may be UTIITSL, and for the others, it may be NSDL. In this article, I will follow the UTIITSL route. The official website is https://www.utiitsl.com/. The home is shown below.
On the home page, go to the option ‘For PAN Cards’ and then click on ‘Apply for PAN Card.’ You will be led to the following page. On this page, there will be various online PAN services that the agency provided. But we intend to reprint the PAN card. So, click on the option ‘Reprint PAN Card.’
Then you will be redirected to the next webpage. Here read the instructions specified by the agency. After reading these guidelines, proceed towards reprinting your Card.
After reading the instructions on the following page, fill in your details. Enter the captcha and click on submit.
Verify the details from the database. Make sure that your address is correct. If there are any queries concerning your details, then apply for a correction. Do not proceed with the incorrect data. After verifying your details, enter the captcha and generate the OTP.
Once you receive the OTP on your registered mobile number, please enter it in the field below.
After entering the OTP, click on submit, and you will be directed to the payment gateway. The applicants have to make an online payment for delivering the PAN card at their doorsteps. As I have already mentioned, a payment of Rs.50 should be made for delivering the Card to an Indian address. A payment of Rs.959 is mandatory for delivery in a foreign country. After entering the details for the mode of payment, click on the option “Submit.”
The transaction details will be processed and verified. Then the payment receipt will be generated. You could either print it on save it on the browser. An acknowledgment number will be messaged on the registered mobile number. For those who intend to have a soft copy, they can download the e-PAN by using the link provided.
As per the income tax rules, a hard copy of the PAN card is not necessary. The soft copy in the form of a pdf can also fulfill the purpose of a physical card. The PAN card agencies also have provisions for issuing e-PAN cards. The e-PAN Card can be availed of by both the old users as well as the new ones.
What Is the Permanent Account Number (PAN)?
Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a unique and essential identity proof issued by the Income Tax Department. The PAN is a ten-character alphanumeric entity that is given to every Indian resident. The PAN is available in the form of a physical card or virtually in a pdf form. The applicants can thus obtain the Card physically or virtually. The unique identifier is issued to every individual under the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961.
Even foreign nationals can obtain a PAN card provided they have a valid visa. Due to such circumstances, the PAN doesn’t serve the purpose of proving one’s nationality. Having a PAN card is voluntary. But this entity is of immense importance. Financial transactions, passports, licenses for driving are some essential procedures that need PAN. To apply for the PAN card, individuals should fill and submit Form 49A. This is the application form only for Indian residents. The foreign nationals who also intend to apply for PAN should submit the duly filled Form 49AA.
The PAN Is Structured As Follows:
i. The first five letters in the PAN are capitalized by default. The next four are numerals, followed by the last letter.
ii. The first three letters are a random combination of letters from AAA to ZZZ.
iii. The fourth character specifies the type of cardholder. Each holder is assigned a unique letter from the list given below
- A- Association of persons (AOP)
- B- Body of Individuals (BOI)
- C- Company
- F- Firm
- G- Government
- H- Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)
- L- Local authority
- J- an artificial juridical person
- P- Individual or person
- T– Trust (AOP)
iv. The fifth letter is the first character of either of the following.
- In the case of a personal PAN card, then the fifth letter is the last name or the individual’s surname.
- Otherwise, if the Card belongs to the company, AOP, HUF, BOI, and the others, then the name of the trust, society, organization, or any other entity is mentioned.
v. The tenth character is an alphabet that is used to verify the authentication of the present code as a check-sum.
