For those of you who do not know me, my name is Micah McCanna and I am from a small town in North Carolina, Laurinburg. I am currently in Nursing school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill which I will soon be graduating in May. I am striving to become a critical care nurse in a Cardio Thoracic Intensive Care Unit. I have always strived to be the best I can possibly be, give back what ever I can, but now it's time for me to ask for a little help. As a member of the USA Elite Bobsled/Skeleton team I have been training to compete at a Skeleton athlete, but recently I have switch to bobsledding. I have just recently been asked to pursue a career as a driver due to my commitment as a brakeman in the January/February America's Cups.
As most know, the journey to becoming an Olympic Athlete is terribly hard and demanding. I have been putting every ounce of energy into my conditioning and weight training, but this may not be enough. I need your help as well. Like any other sport there are financial needs that have to be met. This sport requires me to have state of the art equipment, and without these tools one could not even think of competing at the national level. As a USA bobsled/skeleton athlete, we compete all over the world. There are only two tracks in the United States: Lake Placid, New York and Park City, Utah. Our equipment is not light therefore we also endure pricy travel fees. We have to crate ship our sleds to these locations and this in itself is quite expensive.
With your support I could put my financial worries to the side and focus entirely on my training. Training for the Olympics is a 24 hour 7 days a week job. We have to physically and mentally prepared in order to perform at the best of our abilities. To represent the United States in Sochi Russia would be a great honor. The pursuit of becoming an Olympic Athlete requires the support of many. I need to raise a fair amount of money in order to purchase a sled this summer for next season, as well as a set of practice runners and racing runners. I am the driver of team McCanna and I have to supply equipment for my brakeman, who is my brother. We plan to be one of the first bobsled teams who are related to make it to the top. If you think about it, it makes the most sense. We have grown up together, we know how each other is feeling, and most importantly what each other is thinking. We will be more in tune with our surroundings than compared with the other racers.
I am also looking for some major sponsors who would like to have their name or company be represented on my sled. With your help we can make a difference and keep the US on top. Our nation needs to continue its success. The more support we have the more we can accomplish.
