Low Budget FM is a comedy podcast
underdog. Our long, sad story is, well, long and sad. Suffice it to say we're
still here, we're still producing and we'd love to continue doing so for a long
time. Unfortunately, we've run into a bit of a snag when it comes to facilities.
We were producing the show in a garage at our Koreatown home for quite
some time. We moved. It happens. Not to worry though, because we'd arranged to
move the show's home from the K-Town garage to a brand new facility in Burbank,
California. Fantastic!
Except that fell through. We had to leave almost
as quickly as we'd come, and the show was left homeless, forced to move into a
cramped, acoustically-unfortunate loft above the living room in the hosts'
Culver City apartment. It makes the show sound bad, it makes the hosts (us!)
work around a bizarre schedule, it subjects them to potential noise complaints,
it makes getting any sort of guests or friends on the show very difficult (due
to parking, other roommates, the aforementioned noise and schedule issues and
the whole 'inviting them into our home' thing.)
We found a place to move
the studio that's super cheap -- and trust us, we did a LOT of shopping around.
It's just a tough thing to bankroll when we all have our own rent, car payments,
insurance, food, hookers, cocaine etc. to pay for.
The new space:
Our target amount is the amount it'll take to pay the rent on our new
studio for a full YEAR. We're taking care of the security deposit and
application fees. Huzzah. We're terrible business people.
Donors who give
$25 or more get a limited edition Low Budget FM t-shirt! But that's not all you
can get as a reward! Depending on how much you're able to donate, we'll do
increasingly ridiculous things -- draw you pictures, have you over to the studio
to co-host the show with us, produce a demo of your very own podcast, give you
the naming rights to our glorious new studio, do the show from your backyard,
the sky's the limit.
For those familiar with the shows, we'll also offer full, unfettered use of
the space to
Megaboom! Radio and any
other show we're "tight" with that would like to use it.
And if you're technically minded, you might want to know what equipment
we'll be installing in this facility! Here ya go, baby:
- Mackie 1402-VLZ Pro mixing board
- 3 Shure SM-58 Microphones
- 1 Electrovoice RE-20 Microphone
- dbx 266xL Compressor
- dbx 166xL Compressor
- Marantz PMD660 Digital Audio Recorder
- Behringer Eurorack FX 4 channel mixer
- Behringer Headphone Amplifier (4-port)
