"A
Wonderful Day" is a cinematic exploration into two different worlds, where two
generations unleash their difficulties and judgments with the backdrop of
post-World War II. A mixture of religion, morality, family and conflict is
presented in a short film by three young Israeli filmmakers.
Synopsis:
Shachar, a
young and aspiring Israeli scientist, has received a research scholarship at a leading German university. His grandmother Lia, is a Holocaust
survivor and has maintained her bitter temperament and anguish for the German
society ever since her release from Auschwitz concentration camp. Once she hears the news from
Shachar, she is horrified and makes every effort to prevent him from going to Germany. She goes
so far as to hire a prostitute to seduce and convince him to stay in Israel. Each
and every step that she takes demonstrates her extreme loathing and clinging to
her memories of what the Nazis did to her. As the story unfolds, the conflict
between grandmother and grandson, paralleled against two opposing generations, becomes
inevitable.
