Bufo - a short Australian comedy

BrowseFilmProduction

Set amidst celebrations for Australia's Bicentenary in 1988, Bufo tells the story of small town mayor Wilbur Hurley who is convinced by his shady colleague Bill Chapman to propose the construction of a cane toad monument in the town's centre. The proposal is met with harsh protest from the angry locals, who insist that no tribute should be erected to such a national mistake. Wilbur is caught between the wants of his cheating wife and the unsympathetic gripes of the local townspeople. He must learn to stop surrendering to the expectations of others in order to save his job, his dignity and even his life.

Bufo will be shot on the Sunshine Coast by a dedicated volunteer cast and crew over seven days. Writer/director Ben Holmes and producer Belinda Ensor are looking for support to bring to life the world that was sunny Northern Queensland in 1988. It's a world where eccentric Australian characters lurk in colourful oversized jumpers and short shorts, where old grudges never seem to fade and where one man must learn to trust himself and his decisions in order to find his place in the world.

Bufo will catapult audiences into small-town Australia featuring golf clubs, cricket bats, potty-mouthed grandmas and bottles of Dettol. With your support, Bufo will be the newest addition to comic Australian story telling.

Please note that all donations are in US dollars.
