We're planting 1400 trees across Northfield.
This will include over 30 community orchards.
The trees will bring many benefits to our community including:
reconnecting people with their food sources
reducing food miles for fresh fruit & produce
providing habitat for wildlife
increasing biodiversity
improving the look of Northfield, making it a greener place to live and work
allowing children & adults alike to learn more about wildlife, ecosystems & food production
Of course the global benefit is that trees absorb carbon dioxide so there will be less in the atmosphere. By some estimates each tree can absorb a ton of carbon!
Does this sound like something you want to get involved in? Well there's plenty of ways you can help:
Sponsor a tree
We've been part funded to plant these trees but we still need people who are willing to help us invest into our community.
Provide a location
As you can imagine this amount of trees needs a significant amount of land! Do you work with or have links with a community organisation (schools, churches, park groups etc..) who you think would be interested in having their own orchard, then please contact us at luke.pearson@northfieldecocentre.org. If you're thinking about setting up a community orchard and want to know more about the benefits click here for a How To guide produced by the government.

Planting began in National Tree Week 2011 and shall continue onward until 2013
