I have worked continuously as a Project Controls Specialist in the
construction industry since receiving my BS in Industrial Technology
from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1999.
I have worked in a variety of sub-industries to include heavy civil,
off-shore, steel fabrication, power, mining, commercial general
contracting, as well as telecom.
I have expert-level understanding in the implementation, execution, and
management in document control systems, project scheduling (to include
forensic scheduling), cost control, as well as earned-value management.
My target market for this en devour is the smaller general contracting
firms who are reaching for the stars but can't seem to quite get there
as they currently have no project controls personnel that would allow
them to bid - and win - certain projects that cannot be won with a PC
Professional who are able to use certain complicated software (i.e.,
Primavera products) that would be required for the duration s of these
projects.
Anyone currently in the estimating side of the house will tell you that
more and more projects are requiring the use of automated scheduling
software. Without access to someone who can use it proficiently, the
smaller general contractor loses opportunity after opportunity.
This is where I would step in as a consultant. Without the extra burden
of being pay-rolled, I can provide these companies that expertise.
I can also provide training in scheduling - to include the effective use
of scheduling software - cost control, budgeting, and forecasting, as
well as how to develop and implement a standard record-keeping system.
I would also be available for forensic scheduling and proving - or disapproving - delay claims.
Many, many potential opportunities are available in this market that would make success possible.
What sets me aside from the current competition is my ability to perform within a plethora of project possibilities.
Also, if a client were to request a no-compete clause, I have a plan
that would allow me to enter such a contract on a retainer. This would
allow a client to interact and request services from me at any time. A
running tab of the fees that would be charged off retainer will be
tallied, subtracted from the value of the retainer and an invoice
showing the amount left on retainer will be mailed monthly.
These contracts would have an expiration of certain amount of time or
when the retainer balance becomes $-0-. At this point the client can
choose to end or extend the contract.
However, on a non-contractual basis fees would be charged for these
services which could then be billed to the individual project, or in the
case of estimating, to overhead. The size of the projects and the
amount of time required to be dedicated would establish the individual
fees. Single day jobs would be paid at a predetermined hourly rate plus
expenses.
Until I reach my goal of $100,000 annual revenue, I would be the sole
consultant. At that point I would begin to seek either an employee(s) or
a partner who would be able to provide the same level of service to an
already established customer base as well as an active seeker of new
clients
